Committee on EU Affairs to discuss CETA with Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment Leo Varadkar

The Joint Committee on European Union Affairs will discuss the Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA) with Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment at a meeting in Leinster House tomorrow, Wednesday, 26 May.

The Tánaiste will appear virtually before the Committee at 9.30am. The meeting, is the fourth in a series of meetings for the Committee examining the CETA trade deal.

Cathaoirleach of the Committee Joe McHugh TD said: “The Committee welcomes this engagement with the Tánaiste to discuss CETA. The Committee looks forward to hearing the Minister’s views on all aspects of the deal including the proposed Investor Courts System (ICS); the costs and benefits to Ireland from the deal to date and the projected benefits of the agreement to the economy in the future.”

CETA is the proposed trade deal between the EU and Canada. It has been provisionally applied since September 2017 but has yet to be formally ratified by Ireland.
