Sub Committee on Mental Health to meet Transgender Equality Network Ireland (TENI) and BeLonG To Youth Services

The Sub Committee on Mental Health will meet representatives of the Transgender Equality Network Ireland and BeLonG To Youth Services at a meeting in Leinster House, tomorrow, Tuesday, 1 June at 11.00am.

The discussion will focus on the supports available for the LGBTI community and concerns arising out of the Covid-19 lockdown.

Moninne Griffith, Chief Executive Officer of BeLonG To Youth Services  and Éirénne Carroll, Chief Executive Officer of Transgender Equality Network Ireland (TENI)  will appear virtually for the discussion.

Speaking before the meeting, Cathaoirleach of the Sub-Committee Senator Frances Black said: “There can be no doubt that the on-going pandemic has had a devastating impact on mental health with reported increase of depression and anxiety across society. Various sectors of society have been affected in unique ways. The Committee welcomes witnesses from both BeLonG To and TENI to hear about the impact Covid-19 has had on services for LGBTI+ people of all ages and how the pandemic and public health restrictions impacted on mental health.”
