The Joint Committee on Social Protection, Community and Rural Development and the Islands will meet Comhdháil Oileáin na hÉireann- Irish Islands Federation and Comhar na nOileán CTR tomorrow, Wednesday 6 October to discuss the proposed National Action Plan for Island Development.
The meeting will take place in Leinster House, Committee Room 4 at 9.30am.
Simon Murray and Aisling Moran from the Islands Federation of Ireland; and Máire Uí Mhaoláin; Cathy Ní Ghóill from Comhar na nOileán CTR will appear before the Committee.
Committee Cathaoirleach Denis Naughten TD said: “The coastal islands and communities are a crucial part of our history and heritage.
“The Committee wants to hear the voice of islanders and get their opinion on what is needed to stop population decline, reduce that downward trend and build and sustain vibrant communities.
“Key issues that will be discussed include vital transport and social infrastructure needed by the islands including education, childcare, transport, housing and broadband and key supports needed for industries like tourism, fishing and farming.”
