Joint Committee on Transport and Communications to discuss Updated National Development Plan with Transport Infrastructure Ireland and National Transport Authority

2 Samh 2021, 16:30

The Joint Committee on Transport and Communications will meet tomorrow, Wednesday, 3 November, to discuss the Updated National Development Plan (NDP) with representatives of Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII) and the National Transport Authority (NTA).

The meeting at 1.30pm in Committee Room 2 of Leinster House will hear from TII’s Chief Executive, Peter Walsh, and Director of Capital Programme, Nigel O’Neill; and the NTA’s Chief Executive, Anne Graham, and Director of Transport Planning and Investment and Deputy Chief Executive, Hugh Creegan.

Speaking ahead of the meeting, Committee Cathaoirleach Deputy Kieran O’Donnell said: “Earlier this year, following discussions with relevant stakeholders, the Committee made a submission to the Government’s review of the National Development Plan. The priority for the Committee then and now is enhanced connectivity infrastructure, and that the NDP should enable connectivity for the people and businesses of Ireland at all levels – international, national, regional and local.

“The Committee welcomes the publication last month of the updated NDP and the Government’s commitment to increase funding levels for infrastructure projects. However, we wish to discuss the specific details on many projects, particularly in terms of costs and timelines. The Committee wishes to especially engage on and assess the up-to-date status of major transport schemes, including the M20 Cork-Limerick motorway and the MetroLink and Dart-Plus rail projects in the Greater Dublin Area. Members welcome this opportunity to meet with the representatives of TII and the NTA and look forward to a wide-ranging discussion on the Updated NDP, and related matters.”

The Joint Committee on Transport and Communications has 14 Members, nine from the Dáil and five from the Seanad.

The meeting in Committee Room 2 can be viewed live on Oireachtas.ie.

Committee proceedings can also be viewed on the Houses of the Oireachtas Smartphone App, available for Apple and Android devices.
