Joint Committee on Public Petitions to discuss Direct Provision policy with Department of Children, Equality, Disability, Integration and Youth Affairs

The Joint Committee on Public Petitions will meet tomorrow, Thursday, 11 November, to resume discussions on Direct Provision policy and related matters, and to consider petitions from members of the public.

The meeting at 1.30pm in Committee Room 4 of Leinster House will discuss Direct Provision policy with officials from the Department of Children, Equality, Disability, Integration and Youth Affairs led by the Secretary General, Dr Fergal Lynch.

Committee Cathaoirleach Deputy Martin Browne said: “The Committee looks forward to discussing direct provision policy and related matters with Dr Lynch and his colleagues. We have previously held discussions on this matter with representatives from Irish Human Rights and Equality Commission, the Law Society of Ireland, Doras and the Irish Refugee Council, as well as Dr Niall Muldoon, Ombudsman for Children, and the Ombudsman, Peter Tyndall.

“The Committee will also discuss a number of petitions from members of the public, including two related to unauthorised developments on the River Shannon.”

The Joint Committee on Public Petitions is a standing Committee of the Houses of the Oireachtas and has 11 Members, seven from the Dáil and four from the Seanad.

The meeting in the Committee Room 4 can be viewed live on Oireachtas TV.
