9 Márta 2022, 15:45

The Joint Committee on Public Petitions will meet tomorrow, Thursday, 10 March, to discuss the Ombudsman for Children’s Annual Reports 2018, 2019 and 2020 and related matters.

The meeting at 1.30pm in Committee Room 4 of Leinster House will hear from Dr Niall Muldoon, Ombudsman for Children, Ms Nuala Ward, Director of Investigations, and Dr Karen McAuley, Head of Policy.

Committee Cathaoirleach Deputy Martin Browne said: “The Committee welcomes this opportunity to meet with Dr Muldoon and his colleagues and we look forward to discussing his reports from 2018, 2019 and 2020. Members are also interested in hearing any suggestions the Ombudsman for Children may have for changes to the legislation governing his Office.

“We will then examine a range of petitions submitted by the members of the public, including petitions seeking reform of insurance for thatched heritage buildings, to revise employment conditions for Stamp 3 residence permit holders, and claiming that ‘Bye/By Elections in Ireland may comply with legislation however they do not comply with the Constitution’.”

The Joint Committee on Public Petitions is a standing Committee of the Houses of the Oireachtas and has 11 Members, seven from the Dáil and four from the Seanad.

The meeting in the Committee Room 4 can be viewed live on Oireachtas TV.

Committee proceedings can also be viewed on the Houses of the Oireachtas Smartphone App, available for Apple and Android devices.
