Joint Committee on Transport and Communications to discuss the rising cost of fuel

The Joint Committee on Transport and Communications will meet tomorrow, Wednesday, 23 March, to discuss the rising cost of fuel at 1:30pm in Committee Room 2 of Leinster House. 

The meeting will be in two sessions and the Committee will hear from representatives from:

Session 1

  • Tom McIllduff, CEO of AA Ireland.
  • Paddy Comyn, Head of Communications for AA Ireland.
  • Kevin McPartlan, CEO Fuels for Ireland.
  • The Irish Petrol Retailers Association, appearing remotely;
  • David Blevings, IPRA spokesperson.
  • Raylene McCaughey, Manager; McCaugheys 24hr Service Station, Monaghan.
  • Martin McSorley, Director of Drive group of Service Stations.
  • Declan Cronin, Director, Newpark Service Station Ltd.
  • Alan O’Donnell, Director, Woodview Service Station

Session 2

  • Eugene Drennan, President of the Road Haulage Association.
  • Aidan Flynn, CEO of the Freight Transport Association of Ireland.
  • Joe Kenny, CEO Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport.
  • Katie Wheeler, Events and Marketing Officer, Chartered Institute of Logistics.
  • The Coach Tourism and Transport Council of Ireland
  • Willam Martin, Martin’s Coaches, Limerick.
  • JJ Kavanagh, Kavanaghs, Kilkenny.
  • Brendan Crowley, Wexford Bus.

Committee Cathaoirleach Deputy Kieran O’Donnell said: “The Committee is looking forward to continuing the current discussion on the rising cost of fuel with the stakeholders that are directly impacted by this international issue. We will continue to strive as a Committee to find solutions that can be of benefit to wider society, ensuring that all elements of any price reductions, including excise duties decreases are passed consistently onto hard-pressed businesses and consumers.”

The Joint Committee on Transport and Communications has 14 Members, nine from the Dáil and five from the Seanad.
