Joint Committee on Health to discuss improving the lives of those affected by rare diseases and their families

The Joint Committee on Health will meet to discuss improving the lives of those affected by rare diseases and their families at its meeting tomorrow, Wednesday, 22nd June.

The meeting will be broadcast from Committee Room 2 at 9:30am and will include engagement from the former Belgian Minister who will be discussing the multiannual framework for the budget and how that has provided for better guidance of the pharmaceutical policies in Belgium, and representatives from the Health Service Executive who will be providing an update on the National Rare Diseases Office and the National Newborn Bloodspot Screening Programme.

Speaking ahead of the meeting, Cathaoirleach Sean Crowe said “the Committee looks forward to discussing the important issue of rare diseases and the genetic testing of newborn babies for such diseases.”

The Joint Committee on Health has 14 Members, nine from the Dáil and five from the Seanad.
