Joint Committee on Health to meet for further consideration of the General Scheme of the Health (Termination of Pregnancy (Safe Access Zones) Bill

17 Ean 2023, 17:57

The Joint Committee on Health will meet tomorrow, Wednesday, 18th January for further consideration of the General Scheme of the Health (Termination of Pregnancy (Safe Access Zone) Bill at 9:30am in Committee Room 2 of Leinster House.

The purpose of the Bill is to set-up exclusion zones around medical facilities that provide terminations of pregnancies, with the aim of protecting the safety and wellbeing of women accessing such services, as well as service providers and their staff.

At the meeting, the Committee will hear again from officials from the Department of Health, in particular to focus on issues that emerged when the Committee met recently with representatives of An Gárda Síochana regarding the legislation. The Committee hopes to be able to move towards concluding its pre-legislative scrutiny of the General Scheme following the meeting.

The meeting in Committee Room 2 can be viewed live on Oireachtas TV.
