Good Friday Committee to discuss report: ‘For Peace + Prosperity: The Economic and Social Benefits of the Belfast/Good Friday Agreement’ with Ibec

8 Feabh 2023, 13:24

The Joint Committee on the Implementation of the Good Friday Agreement will meet on Thursday February 9th to discuss Ibec’s recent report entitled ‘For Peace + Prosperity: The Economic and Social Benefits of the Belfast/Good Friday Agreement’.

The meeting will take place in Committee Room 1 between 13:30-16:30.

The following representatives are due to appear.

Eamon O’Brien – Executive Director, Ibec
Nikki Gallagher – Head of Public Affairs, Ibec
Michael D’Arcy – Programme Lead – Ibec/CBI

Speaking ahead of the meeting, Committee Cathaoirleach Deputy Fergus O’Dowd said: “We welcome the opportunity to discuss Ibec’s recent report into the economic and social benefits to Ireland and Northern Ireland due to the Good Friday Agreement.”

“The report has found that the peace process has helped to make Northern Ireland a more stable place to invest, a more attractive place to live and work, led to the growth of an all-island economy and has led to more joined up policy for energy, transport and infrastructure.”

“We have spent the past few weeks meeting the architects of the Good Friday Agreement so this is a timely opportunity to highlight the role that the business community has played and continues to play in ensuring peace, prosperity and stability and enhancing living standards and quality of life for all.”

“While current challenges to business include the post Brexit landscape, the dispute over the Northern Ireland Protocol and the lack of a functioning Assembly, the upcoming anniversary of the Agreement provides us with a chance to reflect on the progress that has been made since 1998.”
