8 Feabh 2023, 15:05

The Joint Committee on Public Petitions will meet tomorrow, Thursday, 9 February to resume consideration of a petition to ‘Save St Brigid’s Hospital’ in Carrick-on-Suir, Co Tipperary.

The meeting at 1.30pm in Committee Room 4 of Leinster House will discuss Public Petition Number P00048/21 ‘Save St Brigid’s Hospital’ from Mr David Dunne with representatives from the Health Service Executive (HSE).

Committee Cathaoirleach Deputy Martin Browne said: “This petition from Mr David Dunne calls for the reopening of St Brigid’s Hospital in Carrick-on-Suir, which was closed by the HSE in 2020. St Brigid’s provided much-needed respite, convalescence and hospice services for people in Tipperary, Waterford and Kilkenny.

“The Committee previously heard from members of the Save St Brigid’s Action Group about the impact of the closure and the ongoing campaign to reopen the facility. Members now look forward to hearing a response from the HSE representatives, led by Ms Kate Killeen White, Chief Officer of South East Community Healthcare.

“The Committee will also consider a number of other petitions.”

The Joint Committee on Public Petitions is a standing Committee of the Houses of the Oireachtas and has 11 Members, seven from the Dáil and four from the Seanad.

The meeting in the Committee Room 4 can be viewed live on Oireachtas TV.

Committee proceedings can also be viewed on the Houses of the Oireachtas Smartphone App, available for Apple and Android devices.
