The Joint Committee on Disability Matters will meet on Thursday February 16th on topic of disability proofing and data.
The meeting will take place in Committee Room 4 between 09:30-12:30.
The following representatives are due to appear:
Representatives from the Central Statistics Office, Cormac Halpin, Census Outputs Division, Kieran Culhane, Statistical System Coordination Unit & Fiona O’Riordan, Social Data Collection Division
Representatives from DPO Network , Jacqui Browne, Chair, Grace Murphy, member, Amy Hassett, member & Nem Kearns, member
Representatives from Irish Human Rights and Equality Commission (IHREC), Sinéad Gibney, Chief Commissioner & Dr Iris Elliot, Head of Policy and Research
Speaking ahead of the meeting, Committee Cathaoirleach Deputy Michael Moynihan said: “As a State Party to the CRPD, Ireland must, under Article 31, collect appropriate statistical data relating to people with disabilities. We welcome the opportunity to discuss this important topic with representatives as is important that key decisions made in organisations are disability proofed to ensure that they have taken account of difference and do not have an adverse impact on people with disabilities."
“Disability proofing also requires monitoring and data collection to look at how it impacts an organisation and people with disabilities in order for decisions to be evaluated on how best to implement change.”
