Joint Committee on Foreign Affairs and Defence to hear from representatives from the Civil Defence

The Joint Committee on Foreign Affairs and Defence chaired by Deputy Charlie Flanagan will meet today, Tuesday March 7th with representatives from the Civil Defence.

The meeting will take place in Committee Room 2 of Leinster House between 15:15-18:15.

Speaking ahead of the meeting, Committee Cathaoirleach Deputy Charlie Flanagan said: “We welcome the opportunity to receive and update from the Civil Defence on plans and priorities for the year ahead.” 

“Civil Defence volunteers are based in every county have a proud tradition of supporting the principal response agencies in supporting community events and dealing with a wide array of emergency situations such as extreme weather events and helping with the search for missing persons.” 

“In recent times, the Civil Defence has played a key role in the country’s pandemic response and in the provision of support to Ukrainian refugees who have come to Ireland to seek protection.”

“The second stage of the Civil Defence Bill 2023 was recently debated in the Dáil and we look forward to a discussion with the Civil Defence to hear it’s priorities for 2023.”
