Joint Committee on Autism to resume discussions on Autism Policy regarding access to assessments, services and supports for autistic people

24 Aib 2023, 16:00

The Joint Committee on Autism will meet at 11am tomorrow, Tuesday, 25 April, in Committee Room 4 of Leinster House to resume discussions on Autism Policy with stakeholders.

The meeting will hear from:

  • Tara O'Donnell-Killen, CEO, and Jessica K Doyle, Co-Director, Thriving Autistic;
  • Davida Hartman, Clinical Director, The Adult Autism Practice;
  • Nem Kearns and Cír Doyle, Co-Founders, Neuro Pride Ireland.

Committee Cathaoirleach Senator Micheál Carrigy said: “The Committee looks forward to considering in greater depth access to assessments and services for adults with autism. We are also interested in learning more about how we can better support autistic people who can sometimes be overlooked in the formation of autism policy, such as women and girls.

“These organisations take a neuro-affirmative and human rights-based approach to autism, which is welcomed by the Committee. Members value their expertise in the area of autism and the approach they take to empowering autistic people.”

The Joint Committee on Autism has 13 Members, eight from the Dáil and five from the Seanad.

The meeting in Committee Room 4 can be viewed live on Oireachtas TV.

Committee proceedings can also be viewed on the Houses of the Oireachtas Smartphone App, available for Apple and Android devices.
