Joint Committee on Health to meet for consideration of the challenges in hospitals

25 Aib 2023, 16:12

The Joint Committee on Health will meet tomorrow, Wednesday, 26th April to discuss the challenges in hospitals including emergency departments, bed shortages and overcrowding with the Minister for Health, Mr Stephen Donnelly, in Committee Room 2 of Leinster House.

Speaking in advance of the meeting, Committee Cathaoirleach Seán Crowe TD said that “despite the fact that we are now approaching the Summer, our public hospital system is continuing to face overcrowding and long waiting times in emergency departments, as well as bed shortages and delayed admission. This is happening even though record expenditure is being devoted to health and the worst impact of the Covid pandemic should have passed. It is an ongoing cause of concern to patients and communities throughout the country.

The Committee looks forward to hearing from the Minister on the specific measures that are being put in place to address these on-going difficulties and to bring improvement in the services available to members of the public as well as in the working environment of personnel in the health services.”

The meeting in Committee Room 2 can be viewed live on Oireachtas TV.

Committee proceedings can also be viewed on the Houses of the Oireachtas Smartphone App, available for Apple and Android devices.
