Good Friday Committee to meet for discussion on the all-island economy with Ibec

The meeting will take place in Committee Room 4 of Leinster House between 09:30-12:30.

The following representatives are due to appear:

Representatives from Irish Business and Employers Confederation (IBEC), Fergal O'Brien, Executive Director, Lobbying & Influence and Michael D'Arcy, Programme Lead Ibec-CBI Joint Business Council

Speaking ahead of the meeting, Committee Cathaoirleach Deputy Fergus O’Dowd said: “We look forward to discussing economic opportunities and enterprise in the all island economy, Ibec’s work on the Joint Business Council with CBI and the ESRI and the National Institute for Economic and Social Research (NIESR) macro-economic modelling project which is currently underway.”

“Ibec and the ESRI are undertaking a joint research programme in collaboration with the NIESR to provide additional insights, through the development of a macroeconomic model, on the economy of Northern Ireland, the all-island economy and links to the wider UK and beyond.”

“The research programme will combine the organisations’ modelling expertise, existing research data bases and proven methodologies to develop a deeper understanding of the economy of Northern Ireland and its link to Ireland and the wider UK economy, working in three interrelated strands.”

“Our previous meeting with Ibec highlighted that the development of an all-island labour market is an important issue for business and we look forward to discussing how and where the Belfast/Good Friday Agreement across all its Strands can support a sustainable and vibrant all island economy.”
