28 MFómh 2023, 11:31

The Joint Committee on Health will meet on, Thursday, 28th September for consideration of issues relating to spinal surgery at Temple Street Children’s Hospital, Dublin at 1:30pm in Committee Room 1 of Leinster House.

The Committee will hear from representatives from Children's Health Ireland (CHI).

Speaking ahead of the meeting, Committee Cathaoirleach Deputy Seán Crowe said “the meeting today follows the revelations in reports recently published by Children’s Health Ireland. We welcome the commitment by the HSE to conduct a further external review into problems identified with complex spinal surgery for children with spina bifida and will take the opportunity to get an up-to-date first-hand account from CHI on how the difficulties that have emerged came about and how they will be avoided in the future.

The Committee is also anxious to learn of the measures planned to address the concerns of the children and families that have been affected by the surgery, as well as those in relation to children who are awaiting similar surgery.
