Sub-Committee on Mental Health meets for consideration of mental health care for migrants and ethnic minorities

6 Samh 2023, 15:50

The Sub-Committee on Mental Health chaired by Senator Frances Black will meet tomorrow, Tuesday, 7th November for consideration of mental health care for migrants and ethnic minorities at 10am in Committee Room 1 of Leinster House.

The Committee will hear from representatives from:

  • Doras
  • Mental Health reform

Speaking ahead of the meeting Sub-Committee Cathaoirleach Senator Frances Black said “Mental health affects everyone in society. We can all experience ups and downs and have periods where we need help and support. In addition to this, migrants, refugees and people from ethnic minority backgrounds may have experienced trauma, discrimination and marginalisation which is damaging to their mental health and wellbeing. That is why it is so important that mental health services are inclusive so they can take care of everyone who use their services.”

The meeting in Committee Room 1 can be viewed live on Oireachtas TV.

Committee proceedings can also be viewed on the Houses of the Oireachtas Smartphone App, available for Apple and Android devices.
