Joint Committee on Key Issues affecting the Traveller Community to discuss Traveller accommodation in Dublin and Galway

The Joint Committee on Key Issues affecting the Traveller Community (2023) will meet tomorrow, Thursday, 22 February, to discuss Traveller accommodation matters with representatives from Dublin City Council and Galway City Council.

Speaking ahead of the meeting at 10:30am in Committee Room 2 of Leinster House, Committee Cathaoirleach Senator Eileen Flynn said: “The Committee looks forward to continuing its consultation with local authorities in respect of how the State can best provide culturally appropriate accommodation to the Traveller community. We will meet with Dublin City Council and Galway City Council to discuss policy matters including Traveller Accommodation Programmes, the operation of the Caravan Loan Scheme and how we can ensure that the Traveller community can access a high standard of accommodation.”

The Joint Committee on Key Issues affecting the Traveller Community (2023) has 14 Members, nine from the Dáil and five from the Seanad. The Committee was re-established in June 2023 to continue the work of the previous Committee, whose final report can be found here.
