9 Aib 2024, 16:10

The Joint Committee on Health will meet on Wednesday, 10th April for consideration of the funding and implementation of the National Cancer Strategy at 9:30am in Committee Room 2 of Leinster House.

The Committee will hear from representatives from the Irish Cancer Society and the Health Service Executive.

Speaking ahead of the meeting, Committee Cathaoirleach Deputy Seán Crowe said “the meeting tomorrow allows the Committee an opportunity to get a detailed update on the progress that the State is making in delivering the objectives in the National Cancer Strategy and how we are meeting the need for services for patients.

“Since its publication in 2017, our National Cancer Strategy has set out a roadmap to address the issue of cancer survival and patient outcomes in general. It aims to improve cancer prevention, detection and treatment with adequate funding.

“We will seek further information on what measures the representatives from the Irish Cancer Society and from the HSE on any areas of concern that have emerged and what measures are needed to ensure that the Strategy remains effective in delivering for patients.”

The meeting in Committee Room 2 can be viewed live on Oireachtas TV.

Committee proceedings can also be viewed on the Houses of the Oireachtas Smartphone App, available for Apple and Android devices.
