17 Noll 2012, 11:24

Officials from the Department of Environment, Community and Local Government will attend the meeting of the Oireachtas Joint Committee on Environment, Culture and the Gaeltacht tomorrow, Tuesday, 18th December 2012 for scrutiny of EU legislative proposal COM(2012)628.

This is a proposal for a directive of the European Parliament and of the Council amending Directive 2011/92/EU on the assessment of the effects of certain public and private projects on the environment. Directive 2011/92/EU contains a legal requirement to carry out an environmental impact assessment of public or private projects likely to have significant effects on the environment, prior to their authorisation. The purpose of the proposal is to strengthen the provisions concerning the quality of the Environmental Impact Assessment of public or private projects with the aim of achieving a high level of environmental protection.
