Dr Barrett specialises in European law, with a particular interest in the employment law and constitutional law fields.

The meeting is expected to explore:

  •     Financial, budgetary and economic policy integration in the EU;
  •     Democratic accountability, legitimacy and political union; and
  •     The UK and the EU - implications for Ireland

Chairman of the Committee Dominic Hannigan TD said: “Over the past few weeks we have heard insightful contributions from leading economists, media commentators as well as Dublin MEPs as part of our national debate on Europe's future. We meet tomorrow with two distinguished academics on EU Affairs, with a strong track record for communicating Europe in plain English in their academic writing and teaching. We look forward to engaging with Prof Laffan and Dr Barrett on their views on Ireland's role in an evolving European Union. ”

“With the discussions on closer integration advancing at European Union level, our Committee intends to engage Irish citizens and civil society to ensure that they are at the forefront of this debate. Our submissions process remains open until 29 March and we hope to receive a wide-range of views as what happens at European level impacts in every corner of our country.”

The meeting takes place at 2 pm tomorrow 14 March in Committee Room 2, LH 2000. Committee proceedings can be followed live here.
