The Seanad Committee on Procedure and Privileges has granted permission to Senator Ivana Bacik to invite all female TDs and Senators to mark the 95th Anniversary of the 1918 General Election with a commemorative event in the Seanad Chamber, tomorrow Tuesday 28 January 2014 at 1.30 p.m.
The 1918 General Election saw Constance Markievicz elected as the first woman TD and MP. To commemorate the occasion Constance Markievicz’sspeech regarding a woman’s right to vote, which was originally given in the lead up to the 1918 election, will be read.
A similar event was held to mark the 90th Anniversary of the 1918 election.
