17 Samh 2020, 16:10

The Joint Committee on Media, Tourism, Arts, Culture, Sport and the Gaeltacht will discuss the impact of Covid-19 on the Sports Sector when it meets with representatives of Sport Ireland tomorrow, Wednesday, 18 November.

The meeting at 2.00pm in Committee Room 3 of Leinster House will be briefed on Sports Ireland’s key priorities by Kieran Mulvey, Chairman of the Board, while John Treacy, Chief Executive, will outline the challenges facing the wider sporting sector due to Covid 19.

Committee Chair Deputy Niamh Smyth said: “We have previously heard how Covid-19 has severely impacted sport across the country, from children’s games to professional matches, and caused financial difficulties for clubs and sporting organisations. Members are interested in hearing from Sport Ireland their key priorities for the coming years and what can be done to help the Sports Sector recover from the damage done by the pandemic. The Committee looks forward to engaging with Sport Ireland on these matters.”

The Joint Committee on Media, Tourism, Arts, Culture, Sport and the Gaeltacht has 14 Members, nine from the Dáil and five from the Seanad.

The meeting in Committee Room 3 can be viewed live on Oireachtas TV.

Committee proceedings can also be viewed on the Houses of the Oireachtas Smartphone App, available for Apple and Android devices.
