Joint Committee on Enterprise, Trade and Employment to discuss Companies (Small Company Administrative Rescue Process) Bill 2021 with Minister Damien English

14 Meith 2021, 17:00

The Joint Committee on Enterprise, Trade and Employment will meet tomorrow, Tuesday, 15 June, to discuss the possibility of waiving the requirement to carry out Pre-Legislative Scrutiny of the General Scheme of the Companies (Small Company Administrative Rescue Process) Bill 2021.

The meeting at 9.45am in Committee Room 4 of Leinster House will be briefed on the Heads of the Bill by Damien English TD, Minister of State at the Department of Enterprise, Trade and Employment with responsibility for Employment Affairs and Retail Businesses.

Committee Cathaoirleach Deputy Maurice Quinlivan said: “This Bill provides for a rescue mechanism for small and micro businesses facing financial and trading difficulties, exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic, with the aim of preventing the closure of otherwise viable companies and providing them with the necessary breathing room to continue in operation and trade their way out of present difficulties.

“The Minister has asked that the normal requirement in relation to pre-legislative scrutiny be waived on this occasion. The Committee will consider this request and looks forward to discussing the Bill with Minister English before making a recommendation on a PLS waiver to the Business Committee.”

The Joint Committee on Enterprise, Trade and Employment has 14 Members, nine from the Dáil and five from the Seanad.

The meeting in Committee Room 4 can be viewed live on Oireachtas TV.

Committee proceedings can also be viewed on the Houses of the Oireachtas Smartphone App, available for Apple and Android devices.
