Joint Committee on Environment and Climate Action to discuss Energy Charter Treaty, Energy Security, Liquid Natural Gas and Data Centres

The Joint Committee Environment and Climate Action will meet tomorrow, Tuesday, 28 September, to discuss the Energy Charter Treaty, Energy Security, Liquid Natural Gas and Data Centres.

The meeting at 12.30pm in Committee Room 1 of Leinster House will hear from:

·       Dr Patrick Bresnihan, Maynooth University;

·       Dr James Carton, Dublin City University; and

·       Dr Kyla Tienhaara, Queen's University, Ontario, Canada.

Committee Cathaoirleach Deputy Brian Leddin said: “Issues around the Energy Charter Treaty, energy security, the use of liquid natural gas and the growth of data centres in Ireland have all become matters of political and public concern here. We have invited these experts in their fields to meet with the Committee to discuss the implications all these will have for Ireland and for managing climate change and reducing emissions in the short, medium and longer term.”

The Joint Committee on Environment and Climate Action has 14 Members, nine from the Dáil and five from the Seanad.
