Joint Committee on Agriculture, Food and the Marine to hold separate meetings with fishing industry representatives and Minister McConalogue

The Joint Committee on Agriculture, Food and the Marine will meet this evening and again tomorrow to discuss matters related to this weekend’s meeting of the EU Agriculture and Fisheries Council (AGRIFISH).

At 5.30pm today, 8 December, in Committee Room 3 of Leinster House will discuss fishing quotas and decommissioning with representatives from Killybegs Fishermen’s Organisation (KFO), the Irish Fish Producers Organisation (IFPO), the Irish South & East Fish Producers Organisation (IS&EFPO) and the Irish South & West Fish Producers Organisation (IS&WFPO).

Tomorrow, Thursday, 9 December, the Committee will meet at 5.30pm in Committee Room 2 with the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Marine, Charlie McConalogue TD, to discuss the Sea Fisheries Sustainability Impact Assessment (SIA) and the AGRIFISH Council meeting regarding 2022 fishing quotas. 

Committee Cathaoirleach Deputy Jackie Cahill said: “The Committee welcomes this opportunity to engage with the representatives of the Fishing Sector to hear their concerns around future fishing quotas and the decommissioning of fishing vessels ahead of this weekend’s AGRIFISH discussions. We also look forward to discussing these and related matters with Minister McConalogue ahead of his attendance at the meeting with his European counterparts to set fishing quotas for 2022.”

The Joint Committee on Agriculture, Food and the Marine has 14 Members, nine from the Dáil and five from the Seanad.

The meeting today in Committee Room 3 and tomorrow in Committee Room 2 can both be viewed live on Oireachtas TV.
