Joint Committee on Environment and Climate Action to meet SEAI for review of retrofitting schemes and district heating systems

10 DFómh 2022, 16:45

The Joint Committee on Environment and Climate Action will meet tomorrow, Tuesday, 11 October, for a review of retrofitting schemes and district heating systems with representatives from Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI).

Speaking ahead of the meeting at 11am in Committee Room 3 of Leinster House, Committee Cathaoirleach Deputy Brian Leddin said: “The SEAI is Ireland's national sustainable energy authority and works with householders, businesses, communities and government to create a cleaner energy future. We are particularly interested in discussing the National Retrofitting Scheme and district heating opportunities.

“The Committee will discuss progress since the Minister opened registration for the new National Home Energy Upgrade Scheme earlier this year, as well as issues that have arisen for people who have signed up and began retrofitting their homes. We will also discuss the development of district heating systems in Ireland. District heating can offer the benefit of decarbonisation and energy resilience, particularly in utilising waste heat streams from industry. In particular we would like to hear how Ireland can learn from district heating schemes in other European countries and how this can be applied to speed up the rollout of the technology here.”

The Joint Committee on Environment and Climate Action has 14 Members, nine from the Dáil and five from the Seanad.

The meeting in Committee Room 3 can be viewed live on Oireachtas TV.

Committee proceedings can also be viewed on the Houses of the Oireachtas Smartphone App, available for Apple and Android devices.
