Joint Committee on Environment and Climate Action to resume discussions on Report of Citizens' Assembly on Biodiversity Loss

The Joint Committee on Environment and Climate Action will meet tomorrow, Tuesday, 17 October, to resume its examination of the Report of the Citizens' Assembly on Biodiversity Loss.

The meeting at 11am in Committee Room 3 of Leinster House will discuss the recommendations contained in the Citizens' Assembly report relating to the rights of nature and environmental law with representatives from:

  • Centre for Law and the Environment, University College Cork;
  • Centre for Democratic & Environmental Rights (CDER);
  • School of Law, Queens University Belfast; and
  • Maynooth University.

Committee Cathaoirleach Deputy Brian Leddin said: “The Citizens' Assembly on Biodiversity Loss made a number of recommendations regarding enshrining rights regarding nature and environmental law in the Constitution. The Committee looks forward to discussing these recommendations and how best to implement them with our stakeholders, including the experience in other countries which have incorporated, or plan to incorporate, nature and environmental laws in their national or local legislation.”

The Joint Committee on Environment and Climate Action has 14 Members, nine from the Dáil and five from the Seanad.
