9 Aib 2024, 16:30

The Joint Committee on Agriculture, Food and the Marine will meet tomorrow, Wednesday, 10 April, for separate engagements with the European Commission and the Chairperson Designate of Bord Bia.

The meeting at 5.30pm in Committee Room 3 of Leinster House will be split into two session:

5:30pm-7pm – Ms Henrieta Jany-Roskova, Team Leader, Unit E1, Governance of agri-food markets, DG Agriculture and Rural Development, European Commission, on antitrust guidelines for sustainability agreements in agriculture;

7pm-8:30pm – Mr Larry Murrin, Chairperson Designate, Bord Bia.

Committee Cathaoirleach Deputy Jackie Cahill said: “In our first session, the Committee will discuss the European Commission’s antitrust guidelines for sustainability agreements in agriculture. These guidelines are intended to clarify how operators active in the agri-food sector can design joint sustainability initiatives in line with the 2013 Regulation establishing a common organisation of markets in agricultural products. The Committee looks forward to hearing from Ms Jany-Roskova about the implications of these guidelines for our agri-food businesses.

“One of the roles of Joint Committees is to meet with the new Chairperson Designate of a State body. In our second session, Members welcome this opportunity to meet with Mr Mullin to discuss his strategic priorities for Bord Bia. We look forward to a wide-ranging discussion about his vision for Bord Bia and the global promotion of Ireland’s world class food and drink sector during the term of his appointment.”

The Joint Committee on Agriculture, Food and the Marine has 14 Members, nine from the Dáil and five from the Seanad.

The meeting in Committee Room 3 can be viewed live on Oireachtas TV.
