We are delighted to welcome delegates to the 37th annual pre-conference of IFLAPARL, the Library and Research Services for Parliaments Section of IFLA (International Federation of Library Associations).
We met with colleagues from around the world and shared experiences and best practice in the provision of library and research services to parliaments, their members and committees, as well as citizens.
This was a satellite event of the 87th World Library and Information Congress which took place in Dublin, 26-29 July 2022.

About the IFLAPARL Pre-conference

The theme of the IFLAPARL Pre-conference 2022 is "The parliamentary life of information: how library & research services provide value for parliaments, Members and citizens".
This will be the 37th IFLAPARL pre-conference. It was originally scheduled to take place in August 2020 but was postponed due to the Covid-19 pandemic. IFLAPARL 2022 is one of several satellite events to the 87th IFLA World Library and Information Congress (WILC) which is being held in Dublin at the Convention Centre on 26-29 July 2022. The International Federation of Library Associations (IFLA) is the leading international body representing the interests of library and information services and their users. The conferences have never been held in Dublin before.
The 35th annual IFLAPARL pre-conference was held in Greece in 2019 in Athens, Greece. Some 120 participants from over 50 countries and legislatures attended.

IFLA is the global voice of libraries, representing the interests of the profession and working to improve services worldwide.
IFLAPARL is the IFLA Library and Research Services for Parliaments Section, the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions.
IFLAPARL brings together professionals from the parliamentary library & research services of 50 countries. Its purpose is to increase the effectiveness of parliamentary library and research services through sharing experiences and new developments, problem solving and developing guidance and best practices. IFLAPARL works closely with the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), for example the joint publication of Guidelines for Parliamentary Research Services (2015).
IFLAPARL aims to promote the establishment of libraries and research services as a fundamental component in the development of democratic legislatures. IFLAPARL supports the UN Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 16 - "Promote peaceful and inclusive societies for sustainable development, provide access to justice for all and build effective accountable and inclusive institutions at all levels", specifically contributing to three of the targets within SDG 16:
- 16.6 Develop effective, accountable and transparent institutions at all levels
- 16.7 Ensure responsive, inclusive, participatory and representative decision-making at all levels.
- 16.10 Ensure public access to information.
